So elegantly chic…

All-over seed stitch provides soft texture for the unique seamless construction of this tam. A tubular hat band is joined with three-needle bind off and continued on one side to make a faux button tab, then the crown stitches are picked up and knit in the round for minimal finishing. As elegant as a 1940s bride on the platform should be.

Sized for heads from 17” around (Child Small) to 24” around (Ladies’ Large).

CHILD MEDIUM - 18.5-19.5 inches/46.3-48.8 cm
LADIES’ SMALL - 20-21.5 inches/50-53.8 cm
LADIES LARGE - 22.5-24 inches/56.3-60 cm

GAUGE: 24 stitches and 36 rows = 10 cm/4 inches over Seed/Moss Stitch in the round.

SKILLS YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE THIS PATTERN: Knit, purl, make a gauge swatch in Seed Stitch (alternate knit 1, purl 1 each row).

PATTERN REQUIREMENTS:

YARN: 1, 2, 3, 3 x 50 g/99.0 m (1.75 oz/110 yds) balls worsted-weight yarn (I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Superwash). Approximate yardage requirements: 163 (195, 234, 280) yds/147 (176, 210, 252) m.

NEEDLES AND NOTIONS: 4.0 mm (US 6) double-pointed needles (set of five), or size needed to obtain gauge. (Opt. – Also use a 24" circular needle in the same size for crown; 3.5 mm [US 5] dpns for 3-needle bind off); ¾”/19 mm (for two smallest sizes) OR 1”/25 mm (for two largest sizes) shank button; yarn needle; scrap of yarn for marker

Printing Suggestion: If you choose to print this pattern, it will be easiest to follow if you print it double-sided and staple it down the left side in booklet form. Also, choose the “Print Actual Size” option in your print dialogue box to make sure the sewing patterns are printed accurately.
