The Hidden Benefits of Shopping Here

I get it. You have places you like to shop, and my store is new to you—an unknown quantity. Why should you buy your books here instead of Amazon or Barnes & Noble?

Don’t get me wrong. I love those platforms too. I’m extremely grateful they exist. But the reality is, those platforms don’t need any more of my money. Or yours.

When you look at the price of a book on Amazon, what you don’t see is how the math breaks down. Book economics are complicated, but the short version is that for every book I sell through retail channels, I make between $0.35 and $5 USD. That’s print, eBook, or audiobook, despite the high sticker cost of print and audiobook formats.

My writing income contributes to feeding my family and my adorable dogs and cats and to making sure we don’t freeze to death in the winter. I love it, but I also have bills to pay and mouths to feed. And it’s hard enough to recoup the cost of book production, let alone pay the bills, when I’m only making a few cents to a few dollars per book.

When you shop in my store, I get to keep enough of the sale price to make it feel worth it to keep writing books, and you get the satisfaction of knowing you made a direct connection with an author you want to support.

Why should that matter to you?

To me, you’re more than a customer.

You’re a fellow reader, someone with whom I share a passion, and to whom I am grateful beyond words that you supported me in the most direct way possible.

When you buy from me, you’re directly contributing to the creator economy and making a connection with me that we could never have if you buy through another store. Because trust me, I will remember your name.
