Frequently Asked Questions

Shipping

Shipping Origins:

For physical merchandise, there are two different shipping origins:

  1. Books, bookmarks, and bookplate stickers ship from my home in Peace River, Alberta, Canada within two business days. There is a local pick-up option available during checkout.

  2. Merchandise is made on demand and drop-shipped directly from the manufacturer (with various shipping origins), usually within five business days.

Shipping Destinations:

At the moment, I only ship to Canada and the USA. If you wish to order from another country, please contact me to get a shipping quote.

All orders shipped from the author are sent by Canada Post Expedited Mail. Drop-shipped orders are sent by USPS or Canada Post, expedited speed, insured and trackable.

Shipping rates apply to all orders and are flat rate based on weight. The more you order, the more shipping I absorb into my cost.

Rates are as follows:

CANADA:

Weight (lbs) Cost (CAD)
0.00 to 0.01 $2.50
0.02 to 1.00 $12.00
1.01 to 2.00 $18.00
2.01 to 3.00 $20.00
3.01 to 4.00 $16.00
4.01 and up $12.00

USA:

Weight (lbs) Cost (CAD)
0.00 to 0.01 $2.50
0.02 to 1.00 $10.00
1.01 to 2.00 $12.00
2.01 to 3.00 $20.00
3.01 to 4.00 $16.00
4.01 and up $12.00

Why is it cheaper to ship to the USA than Canada?

This is mostly thanks to the rates charged by Canada Post due to rate agreements they have with the USA and most other countries.

True story: It’s cheaper for me to ship a book from my home in northern Alberta to Paris, France than it is to New Brunswick, Canada. And that’s just the crazy state of shipping rates in my country.

Canada—land of wide open spaces. Which means we pay a lot for shipping.

Advertising and Sponsored Content

I do not accept requests for backlinks.

I will not accept requests to replace existing links unless it is by the owner of the original content my link points to and it is a link update or removal.

I do not accept guest-written content on any topic. All copy will be written by me, and will be an honest review of the product.

I only accept sponsored advertisers for the following product types:

  • Useful products for writers or booklovers (but not books, as I reserve my limited reading time for myself and my own interests)

  • Useful products for knitters

  • Tea, coffee, or hot chocolate brands

I will not post about products I haven’t tried and don’t believe in, so the company must be willing to supply a sample for me to try for free. All products must be available in Canada.

Available placements:

  • My personal/reader/knitter blog (Winters’ Day In); These posts will be promoted on social media, but the product itself will not be (except for rare exceptions where I can’t help but talk about it).

  • My blog for writers (Writing Tips)

  • My podcast for writers (Real Talk for Writers)

Fees:

Fees will depend on placement and context. It is unlikely that the product will get a dedicated post; most likely, it will be mentioned in a longer post on a variety of topics.

For a rate quote, contact me through my submissions form with a brand-specific pitch that meets the above requirements.

Author Collaborations

I love collaborating with other authors to share audiences and promote each others’ work.

Authors must meet the following requirements:

  • Your books must be available wide (not just on Amazon).

  • Your books must be a very close genre fit to my own. Check this page to see what genres and titles I currently have published.

  • Your books must be low sensuality:

    • no on-page sex

    • no consensual implied sex outside of marriage (even off-page) that’s meant to be an emotional high in the plot

    • non-consensual sex (sexual assault) must be handled delicately—and used for narrative drive, not vicarious titillation

    • on-page sensuality must be very low

  • Your books must be professionally edited and have on-genre, professional covers.

I would need a sample of your book to review before accepting the collaboration.

Your book would be shared in my newsletter as a book cover and brief synopsis.

If I choose to read the whole book, it will be outside of the scope of our collaboration, and I will purchase a copy myself (and expect you to do the same if you want to read my book instead of requesting a copy for free). Your book may or may not receive further promotion after I read it—if I love it, I’ll definitely mention it. If I would only rate it three stars or lower, I won’t mention it to my audience. (I would rather give no publicity than bad publicity.) However, I go through my pleasure reading list very slowly, so please don’t expect a review and endorsement as part of the collaboration.

If you would like to work with me, please contact me.
