Elyon’s Children (A Mermaid Lullaby) [Lyricist Showcase]: Celtic pop rock from Rise of the Grigori
What if the songs we sang as children carried the truth of our origins—hidden in plain sight?
“Elyon’s Children” is a haunting, Celtic pop-rock lullaby born from the deep places of my Rise of the Grigori series. It echoes through the watery realm of Sirenia, where mermaids have forgotten who made them—and where a half-remembered melody becomes the key to rediscovering the truth.
I wrote this song from Calandra’s world, but it carries a heartbeat that feels deeply human: the ache of separation, the hope of redemption, and the unshakable love of a Creator who never stops reaching for His children. The undines don’t know who Elyon is—but through this song, we begin to remember.

Behind the Song
I composed the lyrics for this song while writing the first book in my Rise of the Grigori young adult epic mermaid fantasy series, The Undine’s Tear. It’s a lullaby, familiar to every undine (mermaid) child on my fictional island of Sirenia—but the meaning, like many of our human lullabies, has been lost to time. The undine’s have no idea who Elyon is, and they think both the dragon and cherubim races are extinct.
It’s only when my heroine, Calandra, begins digging into her people’s mysterious past that she begins to see the dark reasons behind what’s been forgotten—and this song lights the way toward finding the answers to correct a millennia-old mistake.

The book only contains the lyrics for the verse, and I had recorded a melody back in 2019 when I wrote them. In 2025, when I decided to create the full version of this song, I reworked that melody a bit and expanded the song to include the bridge and the vocal interlude, and created this arrangement in a Celtic pop rock style meant to evoke the ethereal sound of sirensong.
I decided to release this as a B-side track on a single for another song inspired by the series, “Redemption (Raise the Tide)” (coming soon to this blog).
