The Storm in Me: Angsty Blues Rock
New music video and single for βThe Storm in Meβ drops July 29.
βThe Storm in Meβ is a raw, blues-driven rock song for anyone whoβs felt like a shipwreck no one could love. It turns the chaos of inner demons into a powerful declaration of being seen, anchored, and finally at peace.
This song was inspired by Zale, the tortured merman hero of my epic fantasy series, Rise of the Grigoriβa young man convinced heβs more monster than hero, until someone finally proves him wrong. But the ache at the centre of it is universal enough for anyone whoβs ever felt like too much and not enough.

Thereβs a fire
Deep in my soul
Keeps raging higher
Wonβt let me go
Thereβs a demon
I canβt console
This living hell
Is all I knowAnd every time I close my eyes
Iβm a sailor lost at sea
There ainβt no way to save my soul
Or to control the storm in me.There are sins
I canβt undo
So I tell lies
You see right through
There are truths
I just canβt feel
But when I bruise
You help me healYou bring me peace Iβve been denied
A restful eye that shelters me
With you, I never have to hide
The wreck beneath the storm in meWhen thereβs no hope
Inside my chest
You hold me close
And call me blest
When my past
Wonβt stay behind
You love me still
Say, βYou are mine.βI donβt know how you understand
The way to save this broken man
Oh, youβre the only truth I see
The one who calms the storm in meAnd every time I close my eyes
Youβre the anchor in my sea
Are you the one to save my soul?
Can you control the storm in me?(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
Oh, youβre the only truth I see
The one who braves the storm in me -
In late 2025, I heard the term βstomp-clap rockβ for the first time. Even though I hadnβt heard it called that before, I knew instantly what it meantβsome of my favourite songs are in this driven, blues-influenced style. I also realized it was the perfect sound for a song idea Iβd been working on for about a month, inspired by the tortured young hero of my Rise of the Grigori series, Zale.
I already had the hook, and I knew the sound I wanted. And then, while vacuuming one Saturday, the song started coming to meβlyrics and music together. I had to keep stopping the vacuum to jot down lines! When I finally finished my chores, I had almost finished the whole thing. Another hour of focused effort to refine the lyrics and write down the chords, and the song was done.
While I drew heavily on the inspiration of Zaleβs character to write this (his elemental powers, especially with fire; his merman identity; his feeling that heβs an irredeemable monster; and a line from The Water Boy where he says there is βa storm inside me all the timeβ), this song works for anyone who finally finds someone (or Someone) who sees the good in them and helps them find the peace and truth they seek.
I hope you enjoy it.

βThe Storm in Meβ is a mid-tempo (115 bpm) bluesy stomp-clap rock song with a driving beat, memorable electric guitar riffs, and haunting musical vocal fills that evoke the imagery of a sailor lost at sea. Fans of Barns Courtney, Kaleo, or The Score will love the dark, brooding stomp-clap vibes.
Written for a male lead with raw vocal power and nearly two octaves of range with strong crossover potential between Christian and mainstream markets, itβs built for live performance impact while remaining playable by a typical rock band.
This song is available to license. Any commercial release would require a new master recording.
