Bringing my characters to life in song

My latest single and music video are now streaming!

Last October, while vacuuming one afternoon, I wrote a blues-rock song called “The Storm in Me”, inspired by one of my characters from my epic mermaid fantasy series. (That chore leaves me lots of time to think.)

Then, over the next few months, I produced the track, going through several stages and many hours of effort before arriving at the final version.

And now, thanks to the wonders of modern technology, I have also produced a music video that actually features my characters.

I’m excited to announce that my new music video and single for “The Storm in Me” is now streaming!

Watch it below:

Or you can watch the video on YouTube here.

As mentioned above, the song was inspired by Zale, the tortured young merman co-protagonist of my Rise of the Grigori series. In series prequel The Water Boy, he confesses, “There is a storm inside me all the time, just waiting to get out.”

The song is about finding love, peace, and acceptance, through either the love of God or romantic love. The video uses the romantic love angle, featuring Zale and Damaris, a siren cadet he meets in The Sphinx’s Heart—but it could really be either, or both.

Here are some of my favourite stills from the video (but it was so hard to choose—I could have included a lot more!):

Can you do me a favour? To get the algorithmic juices flowing, I would really appreciate it if you would stream it a few times on YouTube and/or your music streaming platform of choice, and maybe even add it to a playlist. You'll find links to the major streaming platforms here, or you can just search your favourite one.

Thanks so much!

I’d love to hear what you think of the song and video. Drop me a comment below!
